My Artistic Journey: Finding Creativity Later in Life
I never imagined that picking up a paintbrush would change how I see the world, but that's exactly what happened. Becoming an artist didn't just give me a new hobby-it transformed the way I experience life.
Before art, I saw the sky as simply blue. Now, I see the endless variations of color-vivid purples blending into orange at sunset, the cool steel grays of an overcast afternoon, or the golden warmth of early morning light. I notice textures in everything-the cracked clay of sun-hardened earth, the way light filters through leaves, the weathered surface of old wood. Art has taught me how to see.
It wasn't always this way.
I spent years in the corporate world, following structure, schedules, and responsibilities. Then one day, I retired. I was free from deadlines and obligations, but I found myself wondering, What now? So many people warned me that stopping work would make me feel lost, that I would "age faster" without something to do. But the exact opposite happened. When I found art, I found a new sense of purpose and energy. I was no longer just passing the time I was creating something that didn't exist before. And with every brushstroke, I felt more alive.
At first, I was unsure. Could I really call myself an artist? Did I have any talent?
Would anyone care about what I created? But I quickly realized something important: art isn't about talent, it's about expression. It's about giving yourself permission to create, to explore, to make mistakes and see where they lead.
Through this journey, I've discovered something even more powerful than making art I've discovered the joy of sharing creativity with others. Sitting at a table with fellow creatives, pouring pieces of ourselves onto a canvas, and watching ideas come to life is a kind of magic. It's a space where vulnerability and empowerment exist side by side, where we can embrace both uncertainty and excitement.
And now, I want to help you experience that magic too.
